WITH a large splash of fun and laughter, the Tathra Beach Family Park’s grand opening of its waterpark and luxury beach houses was held on Sunday.

The opening was part of a community gala day, which park manager Carmen Risby said was attended by around 1000 people with a large influx around lunch, but with people trickling in for the rest of the afternoon.

People came to the gala day for all kinds of reasons as Ms Risby said 500 went into the waterpark and others came to see the new developments Tathra Beach Family Park has made.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held in the morning with Bega Valley Shire Mayor Michael Britten snipping the string, before raffle winner and Tathra Nipper Kashi Hill had the honour of being the first person to go down the waterslide, followed by the rest of the Nippers before it was open to the public.

Tours showed people from the community the new developments around the caravan park, including the luxury beach houses, which Ms Risby said proved to be very popular.

There was also live music, face painting, balloon sculpting, pedal kart races through the park and more

on offer to entertain the crowds.

The waterpark is now open to the community, who can register to use it as well as the other facilities such as the pool.

“We want to get it full, we want people to be using it and we want the community to get involved – for them to feel a sense of ownership over it,” Ms Risby said.

“The only time we can’t take the community in is when we are at full capacity.”
